GAM3

GAM3 (pronounced “game”) is a non-profit organization set out to revive the streets worldwide. We bring Street Sports and DJ's to back alleys and asphalt courts with a mission to empower the youth and prevent conflict and marginalization.

GAM3 Lebanon is currently educating a group of young people to become street level social entrepreneurs. United around the passion for basketball the so called PlayMakers bring sports and socializing to street corners, where the segregated society would otherwise keep them from meeting.

In the video the tension and need for integrating is clearly expressed in the quote “If we want to live in our society we have to integrate. If society has only one wing it is not going to make it”.

The PlayMakers are being educated as part of the KVINFO supported program “Gender Equality Makers”. On this program GAM3 Denmark, GAM3 Lebanon, and the women’s rights organization KAFA has teamed up, to get more girls into sports through the use of street sports activities, seminars, and advocacy.

What do European countries do when it comes to including immigrants with Muslim background? The project “At Home In Europe”, examines this question while aiming to improve democracy and tolerance in the EU.

In their newly published good practice report ”Living Together” the project examines inclusion in 11 EU Cities and here GAM3 is selected as an example of how inclusion among Danish youth and youth with ethnic minorities can succeed. The selection of GAM3 is supported by the following argument:

“Seeing how marginalized youth from ethnic minorities could be brought together with Danish youth and find common ground around basketball and dance, GAM3 turned to the idea of using sports as a vehicle for social change“.

Through the last 12 months GAM3 Lebanon, GAM3 Denmark and the women's rights organization KAFA has worked on a new program which seeks to strengthen the equality in the Lebanese society. The program has been named "Gender Equality Makers" and the activities will include training of 200 former GAM3 Players and Lebanese PE teachers. Together they will reach out to 5.000 youths through the street sports practices and tournaments.
